Brigitte Obermayr studied Russian studies, English and American studies in Salzburg. In 1998, she moved to Berlin, where she received her doctorate in 2002 with a dissertation on Tartu-Moscow cultural semiotics in the context of postmodernism. In 2003, she began working as a research associate at Freie Universität Berlin. Obermayr is a Slavist and literary scholar. Her research has focused on Russian literature and culture from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century, literary and cultural theory, the fictional in the factual, and processes of boundary-crossing between the arts.
