Aladin El-Mafaalani

Aladin El-Mafaalani was born in 1978 in Germany’s Ruhr region. He studied political science, economics, education and labor studies at Ruhr University Bochum, where he also earned a doctorate in sociology. His professional career included teaching at a vocational college in Ahlen, a professorship in political science at Münster University of Applied Sciences, and heading a department in North Rhine-Westphalia’s Ministry for Children, Families, Refugees and Integration. His research has focused on education, youth, migration and urban studies. In 2020, he received the German Sociological Association’s award for outstanding contributions to the public impact of sociology.
