Yassin al-Haj Saleh

Yassin al-Haj Saleh, born in Raqqa, Syria, in 1961, is a Syrian writer and political thinker. He initially studied medicine. In 1980, he was arrested for his political opposition as a member of the democratic wing of the Communist Party and subsequently spent 16 years in Syrian prisons. From 2017 to 2019, he was a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin; he later became an EUME Fellow of the Gerda Henkel Foundation at the Forum Transregionale Studien.
