Vladimir Sorokin (born 1955 in Bykovo near Moscow) is a Russian writer and a major representative of Russian postmodernism. After studying engineering at the Gubkin University of Oil and Gas, he worked as a graphic artist, book illustrator, painter and conceptual artist, designing more than 50 books. He began gaining recognition as a writer in the mid-1970s. His notable works include *Marina’s Thirtieth Love*, *The Hearts of Four*, *The Queue*, *Blue Lard*, *The Blizzard*, *Telluria* and *Manaraga*. Sorokin was a member of the Russian PEN Club from 1993.
