Uwe Birnstein

Uwe Birnstein (*1962) is a Protestant theologian, journalist, and author. After studying theology in Hamburg, he worked as a freelance journalist for newspapers, magazines, radio, and television, including Die Zeit, die taz, and ARD broadcasters. He wrote and edited several books and audiobooks, including biographies of Christian figures such as Martin Luther, Philipp Melanchthon, Johannes Rau, and Margot Käßmann. His biography of Käßmann reached the SPIEGEL bestseller list. From 2007 to 2015, Birnstein edited the “wichern porträts” book series. As a guitarist, he developed the program “Luther & Lindenberg – Zwei Deutsche für ein Halleluja” with Werner Hucks and also created musical programs focusing on Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan.
