Walter Kardinal Kasper

Walter Cardinal Kasper (born 1933) is a German Catholic theologian. He was professor of dogmatic theology from 1964 to 1989 and then bishop of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart from 1989 to 1999. He was called to Rome in 1999 and made a cardinal in 2001. From 2001 to 2010, he served as president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. His notable works include *Jesus the Christ*; he also edited the third edition of the *Lexicon for Theology and the Church*.
