Ulrike Bergermann (born 1964) studied German and art history in Heidelberg and Hamburg and earned her doctorate at the University of Hamburg with a dissertation on the disciplinary positioning of sign-language notation. She is a professor of media studies at the Braunschweig University of Art. Her research focuses on media theory, the history of science and academic disciplines, gender studies, and postcolonial studies. Her publications include “Ein Bild von einer Sprache” (2000), “Disability Trouble. Ästhetik und Bildpolitik bei Helen Keller” (2013), and “Leere Fächer” (2016). Bergermann was involved in founding the journal Zeitschrift für Medienwissenschaft.
