Ulrich Zieger

Ulrich Zieger (1961–2015) was a German writer, playwright, actor, and translator. Born in Döbeln, he grew up in Waldheim and Magdeburg. His work included poetry, prose, and numerous plays. Together with musician Bert Wrede, he created three radio plays. He also wrote the screenplay for Wim Wenders’s film *Faraway, So Close!* (1993). As a translator, he rendered works by Jean Genet and Boualem Sansal from French into German. His literary honors included the Nicolas Born Prize for Poetry in 1991 and an honorary award from the German Schiller Foundation in 2000. His final novel, *Durchzug eines Regenbandes*, was published in 2015.
