Ulrich Kautz

Ulrich Kautz (1939–2020) was a German translator of Chinese literature and a scholar of Chinese studies. Until 1966, he worked as a translator and interpreter at the Embassy of the GDR in Beijing. From 1992, he was an associate professor at the University of Mainz. The Chinese authors he translated included Deng Youmei, Lu Wenfu, Wang Meng, Wang Shuo, Yu Hua, Yan Lianke and Lu Wenfu. His translations of Yu Hua included To Live, The Man Who Sold His Blood and Brothers.
