Toon Tellegen

Toon Tellegen, born in 1941 in Den Briel, the Netherlands, is a Dutch author and poet. He studied medicine in Utrecht and worked as a physician in Kenya before turning to literature. His work includes children’s books and an animal series for adults featuring a hedgehog, a cricket and a frog. Tellegen received the Theo Thijssen Prize in 1997, the Austrian State Prize for Children’s and Young People’s Literature in 2004, the Golden Griffel in 1988 and 1994, and the Silver Griffel in 1990, 1994, 1997 and 1999.
