Mirjam Pressler (1940–2019) was a German author and translator. She wrote children’s and young adult books as well as novels and biographies for adults. Her best-known works include Bitterschokolade, Wenn das Glück kommt, muss man ihm einen Stuhl hinstellen, Malka Mai, and Nathan und seine Kinder. She was also known for her translation of The Diary of Anne Frank from Dutch into German and for translations from Hebrew, English, and Dutch. She published a biography of Anne Frank as well. Pressler received, among other honors, the Carl Zuckmayer Medal in 2001, the German Book Prize for her body of work in 2004, the Special Prize of the German Youth Literature Prize for her complete works in 2010, and the Leipzig Book Fair Prize and International Literature Prize in 2015.
