Thomas Winkelbauer

Thomas Winkelbauer, born in Vienna in 1957, is an Austrian historian. He taught Austrian history at the University of Vienna and served as director of the Institute for Austrian Historical Research from 2010 to 2020. His research focuses on the social, economic, cultural, legal and financial history of Austria in the early modern period. His major publications include “Robot und Steuer” (1986) and “Fürst und Fürstendiener” (1999).
