Thomas Weiler (born 1978 in the Black Forest) is a literary translator. After completing a social service placement in Minsk, he studied translation in Leipzig, Berlin, and St. Petersburg. From 2007 onward, he translated fiction, children’s literature, essays, and nonfiction from Russian, Polish, and Belarusian. In 2017, he received the German Youth Literature Prize for his translation of Piotr Socha’s children’s nonfiction book “Bees.” He was awarded the Karl Dedecius Prize in 2019, followed in 2024 by the Paul Celan Prize and an August Wilhelm von Schlegel Guest Professorship for the Poetics of Translation.
