Richard Pietrass

Richard Pietrass, born in 1946 in Lichtenstein, Saxony, was a poet and literary translator. He studied clinical psychology and, from 1975 to 1979, worked as a poetry editor at Neues Leben publishing house and as an editor for the literary magazine Temperamente. During the same period, he also edited the poetry series Poesiealbum. From 1979 onward, he worked as a freelance writer and literary translator. In 2000, he was elected a member of the Saxon Academy of Arts. His honors included the Wilhelm Müller Prize and the Erwin Strittmatter Prize. For decades, he engaged with the work of Marina Tsvetaeva.
