Mouhanad Khorchide, born in Beirut in 1971 and raised in Saudi Arabia, studied Islamic theology in Beirut and sociology in Vienna, where he earned a doctorate with a study on Islamic religious teachers. He worked as an imam and religious teacher before becoming a professor of Islamic religious education at the University of Münster in 2010. He also took on the leadership of the university’s Center for Islamic Theology. His research focuses on modern approaches to Qur’anic hermeneutics, Islamic theology and Islam in Europe. Khorchide is the author of several nonfiction books, including Islam ist Barmherzigkeit (2012), Gottes Offenbarung in Menschenwort (2018) and Gottes falsche Anwälte (2020).
