Michael Thumann

Michael Thumann (born 1962) is a journalist and author. In the early 1990s, he reported for Die Zeit from the disintegrating former Yugoslavia; from 1996, he worked as a correspondent in Russia, and from 2007 in Turkey. From 2013, he worked as Die Zeit’s foreign affairs correspondent. He first became familiar with Russia during his student years, including through studies at Moscow State University. His books include “Der Islam-Irrtum. Europas Angst vor der muslimischen Welt” (2011) and “Revanche. Wie Putin das bedrohlichste Regime der Welt geschaffen hat” (2023).
