Mathias Mayer

Mathias Mayer (born 1958 in Freiburg im Breisgau) received his doctorate in Munich in 1987 with a dissertation on Goethe’s „Wilhelm Meister“ novels. From 2002 onward, he was a professor of modern German literature at the University of Augsburg. His research focuses include the Goethe period, Austrian literature, music theatre, and ethics. His publications include „Natur und Reflexion. Studien zu Goethes Lyrik“ (2009), „Franz Kafkas Litotes“ (2015), and „Platons Macht über die deutsche Literatur“ (2022).
