Marie Alpermann

Marie Alpermann (born 1988) studied Slavic studies and literature, specializing in South Slavic literature, at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, completing her degree in 2018. She began working as a freelance literary translator and editor in 2019. Before that, she spent several years in education policy, including coordinating international volunteer services and the “Bildungswochen gegen Rassismus” anti-racism education program. Her translations focus mainly on contemporary prose and poetry from Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian, including works by Lejla Kalamujić, Dragoslava Barzut, Senka Marić, and Jasminka Petrović. In 2024, her translation of Petrović’s The Summer I Learned to Fly was nominated for the New Talent Award of the German Children’s and Young Adult Literature Prize.
