Laozi, also known as Lao-Tse or Lao Tzu, was a legendary Chinese philosopher. He is traditionally regarded as the founder of Taoism and the author of the Tao Te Ching (“The Book of the Way and Virtue”), one of the most influential works of Chinese philosophy. According to tradition, he served as an archivist at the imperial court. Accounts of his lifetime differ, and both his historical existence and the precise authorship of the Tao Te Ching remain uncertain.
