Khalil Gibran

Khalil Gibran (1883–1931) was a Lebanese-American writer and painter. Born in Lebanon, he emigrated to the United States with his family as a young person. Gibran studied art as well as Arabic language and literature, and wrote in both Arabic and English. His best-known works include The Madman, Broken Wings, Jesus the Son of Man, and The Prophet. He achieved international recognition with The Prophet (1923), a mystical and poetic work. Gibran is regarded as an important bridge between Arabic and Western literary traditions.
