Kurt Marti

Kurt Marti (1921–2017) was born in Bern. After studying law and theology, including under Karl Barth in Basel, he served as a pastor in Leimiswil and Niederlenz and from 1961 to 1983 at Bern’s Nydegg Church. He subsequently worked as a freelance writer. From the 1950s onward, he published theological and journalistic texts as well as stories, poems, diaries, and essays. In 1997 he received the Kurt Tucholsky Prize for his complete works, and in 2002 the Karl Barth Prize for his theological-poetic work.
