Klaus Fritz was born in Tübingen in 1958 and studied sociology, political science, and philosophy in Berlin. He holds a degree in sociology and a doctorate in philosophy, and worked as a freelance journalist from 1991. He became best known as the German translator of the Harry Potter novels; he also translated books by Simon Singh, Michael Morpurgo, and Jenny Valentine, among others. In 2001, he received the German Phantastik Prize for his work on the Harry Potter translations. Together with Dietmar Friedmann, he also published several nonfiction and advice books.
