J.K. Rowling became internationally known as the author of the Harry Potter novels. The idea for the seven-book series came to her during a delayed train journey in 1990; the first volume was published in the United Kingdom in 1997, and the final one in 2007. Her other works include the children’s books The Ickabog and The Christmas Pig, as well as several novels for adults, including a crime series published under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. Rowling also wrote companion books to the Harry Potter series for charitable purposes and contributed to the script for the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. She received numerous awards for her work and founded the international children’s charity Lumos.
