Karl Rahner (1904–1984), born in Freiburg and deceased in Innsbruck, was a Jesuit and Catholic theologian and dogmatician. He taught or worked in Innsbruck, Vienna, Pullach, Munich, and Münster. Rahner sought to bring theological tradition into dialogue with modern thought and exerted a major influence on Catholic theology in the German-speaking world. He was involved before, during, and after the Second Vatican Council and helped shape theological debate in the second half of the 20th century. His work comprises more than 30 books and over 4,000 bibliographical entries.
