John Irving was born in 1942 in Exeter, New Hampshire. He is an American novelist best known for his fiction; four of his novels have been adapted for film, including “The World According to Garp” and “The Cider House Rules.” In 2000, he received the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film adaptation of “The Cider House Rules.” In addition to writing, Irving pursued wrestling from an early age and was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1992.
