Joachim Unseld

Joachim Unseld, born in Frankfurt am Main in 1953, is a publisher and translator. After training as a bookseller and studying German literature, philosophy and sociology in Munich, Paris and Berlin, he worked, among other places, at Gallimard in Paris. From 1983 to 1991, he was a member of the management and a publisher at Suhrkamp and Insel. In 1994, he took over the Frankfurter Verlagsanstalt. As a translator, he rendered several works by the French writer Jean-Philippe Toussaint into German, including *Flee*, *The Truth About Marie* and *Naked*. In 2024, he was awarded the French distinction of Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
