J M Coetzee

J. M. Coetzee was born in Cape Town in 1940. From 1972 to 2002, he taught literature as a professor in his home city. He writes novels and essays; his notable novels include *Life & Times of Michael K* and *Disgrace*. His work has received numerous international awards, including the Booker Prize in 1983 and 1999 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003.
