Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk

Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk (born 1967) is a historian and author. He studied history at Humboldt University of Berlin from 1990 to 1995. From 1995 to 1998, he served as a member or expert member of the Enquete Commission on overcoming the consequences of the SED dictatorship in the process of German reunification. He subsequently worked for the Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship and in the research department of the Stasi Records Agency. Kowalczuk has published numerous books on the history of East Germany and communism, including “Endspiel. Die Revolution von 1989 in der DDR,” “Die Übernahme. Wie Ostdeutschland Teil der Bundesrepublik wurde,” and the biography “Walter Ulbricht. Der deutsche Kommunist,” followed by “Walter Ulbricht. Der kommunistische Diktator.”
