Hans Konrad Biesalski was born in Marburg in 1949. After initially studying physics, he completed a degree in medicine at the universities of Bonn and Mainz. From 1995, he headed the Institute of Biological Chemistry and Nutrition at the University of Hohenheim as a nutritional medicine specialist; from 2014, he also served as director of the Food Security Center. His research focused on the importance of micronutrients for health. Among his numerous publications are textbooks such as the “Taschenatlas Ernährung” (Nutrition Pocket Atlas).
