Gerd Bergfleth

Gerd Bergfleth (1936–2023) was a German writer, translator, and editor. He studied philosophy, literary studies, and Greek studies in Kiel, Heidelberg, and Tübingen. From 1975 onward, he edited the theoretical works of Georges Bataille, most of which he also translated and annotated. He also wrote numerous essays and delivered lectures on figures including Marx, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Blanchot, Klossowski, Cioran, and Baudrillard. Bergfleth died in January 2023.
