Friedhelm Wessel

Born in 1944, Friedhelm Wessel worked for more than 30 years as a journalist and photographer for the Ruhr Nachrichten. From 2007 onward, he published books on the regional and municipal history of the Ruhr area. Wessel grew up in a miners’ colony and described everyday life in the region between the economic miracle and the coal crisis. In the 1970s and 1980s, he also pursued filmmaking intensively and wrote a screenplay for a Western.
