Emil Angehrn (born 1946) studied philosophy, sociology and economics in Leuven and Heidelberg. He received his doctorate in philosophy from Heidelberg in 1976 and completed his habilitation at Freie Universität Berlin in 1983. He was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Frankfurt am Main from 1989 to 1991 and at the University of Basel from 1991 to 2013. His research focused on ancient philosophy, nineteenth- and twentieth-century philosophy, metaphysics, the philosophy of history, hermeneutics and politics. His publications include Der Weg zur Metaphysik (2000) and Interpretation und Dekonstruktion (2003).
