Elke Schmitter

Elke Schmitter, born in Krefeld in 1961, studied philosophy in Munich. She worked as a journalist and editor for publications including taz, Die Zeit, Süddeutsche Zeitung and Der Spiegel; from 1992 to 1994, she was editor-in-chief of taz. Her debut novel, *Frau Sartoris*, was published in 2000 and translated into more than 20 languages.
