Cornelia Holfelder-von der Tann

Born in 1950, Cornelia Holfelder-von der Tann studied English, German and Romance languages and literature. After completing her teacher-training internship in Berlin, she began working as a freelance literary translator. Since 1976, she has translated literature from English into German, including works by Marilyn French, Naomi Wolf, Philip Kerr, William Gibson, Maria Semple, Kathryn Stockett and Tad Williams. Her work has focused in particular on translating colloquial language, Black American English, sociolects and dialects. In 2021, she received the “Rebekka” Translation Prize for long-standing translation work.
