Chinua Achebe

Chinua Achebe (1930–2013) was a Nigerian writer and professor. Born in Ogidi in eastern Nigeria, he studied at University College Ibadan and later taught at universities in Nigeria, England, and the United States. His first novel, Things Fall Apart, was published in 1958 and became one of the most important works of modern African literature. Achebe received the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 2002 for his political engagement and the Man Booker International Prize in 2007. He died in Boston in 2013.
