Carsten Gansel

Carsten Gansel, born in 1955, studied German, Slavic studies and education and received his doctorate in 1981. After teaching in, among other places, Neubrandenburg, Greifswald, Bielefeld and Frankfurt am Main, he was appointed professor of modern German literature and media education at Justus Liebig University Giessen in 1995. As an author and editor, he has published numerous works on literature from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century, including studies of Hans Fallada, Christa Wolf and Johannes R. Becher. In 2016, he edited Heinrich Gerlach’s anti-war novel “Breakthrough at Stalingrad” in a rediscovered version. Gansel was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2017.
