Can Xue

Can Xue is the pen name of the Chinese writer Deng Xiaohua, who was born in Changsha in 1953. She is regarded as an important representative of China’s experimental literary avant-garde. Her parents, both publishers, were persecuted as intellectuals during the campaign against rightists and later during the Cultural Revolution. Can Xue’s work received numerous awards. Her novel *Love in the New Millennium* was nominated for the 2022 International Literature Prize of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
