Birgitta Kicherer

Birgitta Kicherer (born 1939 in Stockholm) grew up in Sweden and Germany. After studying graphic design, she initially worked as a book illustrator before becoming a translator in the early 1970s. She translated mainly from Swedish, as well as from Norwegian, Danish, and English, and worked on literature for children, young adults, and adults. The authors she translated include Tove Jansson. Kicherer received the Christoph Martin Wieland Translation Prize in 1993 and the Special Prize of the German Youth Literature Prize in 1999 for her overall contribution to literary translation.
