Tove Jansson

Tove Jansson (1914–2001) was a Finland-Swedish writer, illustrator and visual artist. She studied in Helsinki, Stockholm and Paris and worked as a painter, cartoonist and comic artist, among other roles. She became internationally known for her Moomin books; the characters first appeared in some of her early cartoons and press illustrations. During the last two decades of her life, she also wrote novels and short stories for adults. Her work received, among other honors, the Nils Holgersson Medal, the Elsa Beskow Plaque and the Hans Christian Andersen Award.
