Bernhard Waldenfels

Bernhard Waldenfels, born in Essen in 1934, studied philosophy, psychology, theology, classical philology and history. He was a professor of philosophy at Ruhr University Bochum, where he later became professor emeritus. As a visiting professor, he taught in cities including Debrecen, Hong Kong, Paris, New York, Prague, Rome and Vienna. Waldenfels was one of the co-founders of the German Society for Phenomenology. His honors include the Sigmund Freud Cultural Prize and the Dr. Leopold Lucas Prize; he also received honorary doctorates from the universities of Rostock and Freiburg.
