Bernd Greiner

Bernd Greiner (born 1952) is a historian, political scientist and scholar of American studies. He studied history, political science and American studies, received his doctorate in 1984 and completed his habilitation in 1997. Greiner taught non-European history at the University of Hamburg, where he was an honorary professor of modern and contemporary history until 2018. From 1989 onward, he worked at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research and headed its research area “Theory and History of Violence” until 2014. He was a founding director of the Berlin Center for Cold War Studies. His research focuses on twentieth-century US history and the Vietnam War; he also published a biography of Henry Kissinger.
