Bernard MacLaverty was born in Belfast in 1942. He studied English while working as a medical laboratory technician and later worked as a teacher. He is the author of short stories, novels and screenplays. His awards include the Scottish Arts Council Book Award and the Lord Provost of Glasgow’s Award for Literature. His novel “Midwinter Break” was named Novel of the Year at the 2017 Irish Book Awards. His novels “Cal” and “Lamb” were adapted into films.
