Barry Windsor-Smith, born in London in 1949, was a British comic artist and painter. His first published work appeared in 1967. He gained international recognition as the artist of Marvel’s “Conan the Barbarian” (1970–1974) and the original “Weapon X” storyline featuring Wolverine. He also worked on stories involving the Avengers, the X-Men and Iron Man. In the 1970s, he was a member of the New York-based artists’ collective The Studio, whose members sought to push beyond the boundaries of the comics scene. He worked on his graphic novel “Monsters” for 35 years.
