Aravind Adiga, born in 1974 in Madras (now Chennai), spent part of his childhood in Sydney. He studied English literature at Columbia University and Magdalen College, Oxford, and later worked as a correspondent for Time and the Financial Times. His debut novel, The White Tiger, won the 2008 Booker Prize and was published in nearly 40 countries.
