Annelies Verbeke

Annelies Verbeke (born 1976 in Dendermonde, Belgium) is a Belgian writer. She studied literary studies in Ghent and screenwriting in Brussels. Her first novel, “Sleep!”, brought her a breakthrough in 2003. In addition to novels, she has published short stories, plays, and screenplays. Her third novel, “Thirty Days,” received the Ferdinand Bordewijk Prize in 2015 and the Opzij Literature Prize in 2016. Her other honors include the J.M.A. Biesheuvel Prize and the Ultima Prize of the Flemish Community.
