Anna Maria Ortese

Anna Maria Ortese (1914–1998) was a writer. She came from a modest background and left school at the age of fifteen. Largely self-taught, she developed her literary talent independently and published her first texts at the age of twenty. Her work received literary awards early on, but she achieved wider recognition only in the last decade of her life.
