Angelika Kaufmann

Angelika Kaufmann was born in 1935 in St. Ruprecht near Villach, Austria. She studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, graduating with a diploma in 1958, and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in 1964 and 1965. From 1970 onward, she illustrated children’s books, some based on her own texts, and produced illustrations, prints, objects, and installations. Her work includes more than 50 book publications. In 2004, she received the Austrian Prize of Recognition for Children’s and Young Adult Literature; she was also awarded the Illustration Prize of the City of Vienna.
