Gudrun Pausewang

Gudrun Pausewang (1928–2020) was a German writer, teacher, and author of children’s and young adult books. Before focusing on writing in Germany, she taught at German schools in Chile and Venezuela and also lived for several years in Colombia. From 1970 onward, she published numerous books for young readers, including *The Cloud* (*Die Wolke*) and *The Last Children of Schewenborn* (*Die letzten Kinder von Schewenborn*). Her work addressed subjects including peace, the environment, social justice, and the consequences of war and nuclear threats. She received several honors, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1999 and the Special Prize of the German Youth Literature Prize for her life’s work in 2017.
