Mira Lobe

Mira Lobe (1913–1995) was an Austrian author of children’s and young adult books. Born in Görlitz, she initially wanted to study and become a journalist. As a Jewish woman in Nazi Germany, she was denied this opportunity and trained as a machine knitter at the Berlin School of Fashion. In 1936, she fled to Palestine, where she married the actor Friedrich Lobe; they had two children. From 1950, Lobe worked in Vienna. She wrote nearly 100 children’s and young adult books, many of which received awards. Her best-known works include *The Granny in the Apple Tree*, *The Little I Am Me*, *Valerie and the Goodnight Swing* and *The Geggis*.
