Ich fand die Welt von Anfang an super spannend und war direkt neugierig, mehr darüber zu erfahren. Natürlich musste ich mich erstmal an die ganzen Regeln und Gegebenheiten dieser Welt gewöhnen, aber gerade das hat für mich auch den Reiz ausgemacht. Besonders spannend fand ich, dass die Geschichte aus verschiedenen Perspektiven erzählt wird. Dadurch bekommt man einen viel umfassenderen Einblick in die Handlung und die unterschiedlichen Charaktere. Auch der Plot hat mir wirklich gut gefallen. Es gab viele Überraschungen und einige Wendungen, mit denen ich so nicht gerechnet hatte. Gerade die Komplexität der Geschichte hat mir gefallen, weil dadurch immer wieder neue Aspekte dazugekommen sind. Alles in allem fand ich den ersten Teil wirklich gut und war durchgehend gespannt, wie sich die Geschichte weiterentwickelt. Ich bin auf jeden Fall gespannt auf Teil 2. 🫶

So this was a reread… because YEARS ago I read books one and two, got emotionally destroyed by the ending of book two, and then simply never recovered enough to finish the last one. Classic avoidance technique. But let me just say—this world? Still one of the best I’ve ever read. Neal Shusterman? That man has brain cells. The whole concept is absolutely wild in the best way, the world-building is so detailed and clever, and the entire premise is just chef’s kiss. That said… I did originally read these books when I was the same age as the protagonists. And now? Yeah, no. They’re babies. I don’t feel like they read super young, but knowing they’re technically, like, 16? Ew. Also, not a ton of action all the time, but it doesn’t even matter because the characters and the world totally carry the story. It’s so engaging even when not much is happening. Honestly, I loved these books so much back then, and I’m 100% rating it through nostalgia goggles. If I were reading it for the first time today, I might feel a bit differently—but it’s still a brilliantly built world with fascinating characters and a killer plot. No regrets, just emotional trauma. We’ll see if I finally gather the emotional strength to read book three this time. Stay tuned for either triumph… or another years-long avoidance arc.

Da hab ich dieses Buch ein halbes Jahr vor mir hergeschoben und dann suchte ich es innerhalb von drei Tagen weg. Das lag vorallem an dem angenehmen, fast-paced Schreibstil der sich super flüssig lesen lassen hat - die 520 Seiten haben sich angefühlt wie nix. Dazu kommen ganz viele kleine Plottwists und Wendungen, die dafür gesorgt haben, dass ich immer wissen wollte, wie es weitergeht und die Spannung das ganze Buch über konstant hoch war. Ich konnte einfach nicht aufhören zu lesen. 🙉 Das Worldbuilding ist so gut gemacht und diese Zukunftsversion ist auch etwas, das ich als Utopie ansehen würde. Das ganze Setting wirkt auf mich so gut durchdacht, mit all den Regeln und Machtintrigen. Cintra und Rowan sind tolle Protagonisten und die beiden in zwei gegensätzliche Welten zu schmeißen war richtig clever! 😍 Mochte dazu auch die beiden Mentoren Scythe Faraday und Curie richtig gerne. Insgesamt einfach ein richtig toller Reihenauftakt für eine spannende Dystopiewelt, an dem ich nichts auszusetzen habe. Freue mich auf die kommenden zwei Bände. 🥰
